Don't Fear the Reaper Review

Like I have said before I won't rate books on a number scale. I firmly believe that one reader can wear a book's pages out while another reader can flip through the first chapter and never pick it up again. That is the beauty of the literary world. Authors can connect with readers on different levels.

DON’T FEAR THE REAPER Book 1 of the Netherworld series Grief-stricken by the murder of her twin, Keely Morrison is convinced suicide is her ticket to eternal peace and a chance to reunite with her sister. When Keely succeeds in taking her own life, she discovers death isn’t at all what she expected. Instead, she’s trapped in a netherworld on Earth and her only hope for reconnecting with her sister and navigating the afterlife is a bounty-hunting reaper and a sardonic, possibly unscrupulous, demon. But when the demon offers Keely her greatest temptation—revenge on her sister’s murderer—she must uncover his motives and determine who she can trust. Because, as Keely soon learns, both reaper and demon are keeping secrets and she fears the worst is true—that her every decision will change how, and with whom, she spends eternity.

In the case of Don't Fear the Reaper by Michelle Muto I was moved. The story is haunting from the beginning, and I will admit that is what drew me in. What kept me reading were a compelling story and a beautifully suspenseful tale. I wanted to get answers right along with the main character Keely. I wanted to know what her fate was. Having lost several people in the past couple of years it spoke to me. I was living the characters grief, remorse, and regret. It also speaks to the fact that we don't know what lies in store for us when we die. It is a lovely interpretation of it, and a wonderfully written book. The visual picture painted of purgatory and the haunting first scene pulled me in. "Ribbons, pretty ribbons." Makes me shiver. Get this book and read it to see how it speaks to you.
