There's always the one…

He's one person throughout life you think about every so often, the one who leaves his unique indelible mark on you, the person with whom you need closure.
For Margaret Collins that person was Mike Taylor.

After he broke her heart seventeen years ago, she left everything she knew and reinvented herself. With a new home, a new look and a new name, Riley Williams is now an up and coming journalist given the assignment to interview a Mike Taylor. She never suspected he would be her Mike Taylor.

With Mike having no hint of Riley's true identity, she must decide if she will make him pay for sins he doesn't remember committing, or if she can wipe away the past and be with the one man who she has always wanted?

Can she finally have closure?

"Are you worried I'm going to get something wrong?" Without him knowing, they slipped back into their old banter. She reached into her bag, found a pad and pen and held them up. "Do you feel better now?"

"Yes, different." He pressed his back against the chair. "A challenge." His smile let the tooth peek out, while seventeen years caused the little wrinkle at corner of his eye to appear. "You know, I have some meetings here the rest of this week."

"Should I be writing this down?" She clicked the pen twice, trying to stop herself from reading more into this.

"Not unless you're writing down your address so I know where to pick you up for dinner tomorrow night."

Everything stopped. Even if only in her mind, for that second the world froze. The constant clink of dishes ceased, the bustling wait staff stood motionless.

Back in the school hallway when he had invited her out, he used a similar assumptive close. He turned to her and asked what time he should get her Friday night.

Though the years had diminished the pain, to this day every now and again, she wondered what would have happened if took her out rather than succumbing to the pressure of his friends and parents. She'd been nothing but a project when she wanted to be a girl.

Here together, they repeated history, but not in his eyes. She couldn't blame him for not knowing her. She'd changed her name, changed her looks, but never managed to change her heart.

She always wondered.

Maybe she always wished.

Was she handed another chance to get her heart ripped to shreds, or had she just received the ultimate do-over?

"Excuse me for a moment." She pushed her chair back and walked away.

Review of Words with Fiends!

Words With FiendsWords With Fiends by Matt Schiariti
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading Words with Fiends. I thought it was well written, and clever. You could feel the suspense with the main character. I enjoyed the use of technology and something everyone knows about to craft a horror story around.

The Promise - Release Day Blitz

The Promise
Hot Ink Press
Kim Carmichael

Demon Dolan Ciar exists on three simple words: desire, denial, and destruction. Every four years, he is allowed one night of earthly passion to punish a deserving female. By the time he is finished, his victims are left as willing receptacles for demons yet to come.
Since she was four, a demon has been the only constant in Leora Desmond's life. He taught her how to seize control, to never give up, and to take whatever she wanted. At twenty-four, her self-centered existence is focused on one thing. She wants Dolan, and she won't be dissuaded.
A mistake brought Dolan to Leora. A promise bound him to her. Returning once again to ask for his freedom, he is faced with Leora demanding to be his next conquest. The ultimate retribution would be to take from her the ultimate symbol of her selfishness.
Now, Dolan must decide if he can doom her to life in living hell or face his own set of unearthly consequences, while Leora must choose between her pleasure and her heart.
The Promise blurs the line between good and evil, desire and love, and promises and commitment.

He tilted his head. "You look older."
She forced herself to blink and to remember her goal. "Then I assume I am at last old enough to be a fit for a demon." She stepped forward, stopping less than a foot away from him. The back of her throat dried out, and she swallowed.
He put his hand to his chin, his gaze taking her in. "This old song and dance. When will you use the brains you have and leave it alone?"
His words hit her, but rather than retreating, she moved closer. The energy, the tingle, the wafts of spice encompassed her and lured her toward him. "Never."
"You were smart last time. Why don't you release me so I can do what I came here for." He glanced down at her and then shifted his focus beyond her. "I have needs as well."
"Tonight I am the one you came here for." The mention of his last visit stung, but she willed herself to keep going. She ran her fingers up the buttons of his shirt. "You always told me to take control."
He shook his head. "A lesson you learned well."
She reached up and clenched his collar in her fist. "I let you go last time, but tonight I am the one you need."
He grabbed her wrist. "I spared you before. Never forget that."
She stared right into his eyes. No weakness was allowed tonight. "It's me, Dolan. Me, or you can be celibate until the decade I do you the favor of dying. I don't care about your pain." She tensed, preparing herself for his retaliation.
"I thought I taught you better than to make demands of a demon." He pressed his palm to the side of her face.
Heat radiated through her body, sending a warning to every one of her nerve endings. "A demon who comforts a child is a failure of a demon in my book."
His jaw tightened. "That was a mistake. An oversight."

Love Lines (Love Lines, # 1)Love Lines by Diana Nixon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found this book intriguing from the beginning. I thought that as it went on it became more intriguing and I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen with the characters. The characters are easily likable, and the story flows well. This is a book I recommend to someone who wants a great paranormal read with a bit of a unique world created for them.

Conquest and Redemption!

Victoria Embers
Conquest and Redemption

If you are not 18 or older do not read any further. This excerpt is from an erotica author.

Victoria Embers, author of the series, My Vampire Lover and fellow writing friend, is on my blog today to celebrate the release of her upcoming novella “Redemption (My Vampire Lover #2)” next Saturday, Feb. 23rd. Save the date!

If you have read her current release, Conquest (My Vampire Lover #1), you have seen the excitement this 2,500 word short story has started for her series, My Vampire Lover.  Some great reviews and some not so great reviews.  But all are ready for more of Caroline and Raphael’s story.  And that is great to see.  I asked Victoria to share with us her writing inspiration for her series and an excerpt from the upcoming Redemption as part of Valentine’s Day.

What is Conquest About?
Caroline, a werewolf and princess of the Golden realm, has discovered a new love in her vampire captor.  She's willing to risk everything, even her life, to prove to him she loves him and has forsaken all others including her family and her pack.

What is Redemption About?
Before Caroline fell for her vampire lover, she met Raphael, a warrior of the Dark realm under difficult circumstances.  Raphael's father, the dark lord Asmodeus is killing off her family and presents Caroline as a pet to Raphael.  Caroline has secrets of her own as to why she let herself be taken and wonders if the vampire willing to help her escape an enemy or friend?  Realizing he must take action, Raphael works quickly to persuade the werewolf beauty who has claimed his heart to leave with him at once if he has a chance of setting her free.

What did you learn while writing Conquest and Redemption?
Because I write in the fantasy genre under another name, I simply wanted to try something new.  It wasn’t easy at first.  I struggled greatly with trying to figure out what I wanted to write about and if I really could write romance.
Releasing the short story, Conquest was a smart idea and a totally bad idea.  It got my name out there, but it also anger people greatly that they didn’t have more to read.  The story was only 2,500 words.  Don’t ask me what I was thinking.  Since releasing it in November 2012, it’s been downloaded as a free ebook some 60,000 times so I know people are looking at it.  I added the first two chapters from Redemption to the short a few weeks ago and that seem to have helped the negative complaints.
I’m anxious to see what interest Redemption generates and see if readers like my version of paranormal romance.  I watched so many of my favorite romance files, read love poetry, and tried my best to really think about the concept of ‘true love’ and not letting an opportunity for love pass you by.  That was my focus.  It was great fun and I hope to be writing another novella in the series for a May release.  We’ll see how it all goes.

Excerpt from “Redemption” of the series by Victoria Embers, My Vampire Lover.

Please note this excerpt is from Chapter 3 – Raphael’s Offer and told from Raphael, the hero’s point of view.

Caroline’s eyes grew very wide and I saw the fear surface behind them.  She backed away from me.  “You mean hellhounds, don’t you?  I can’t go up against… I mean I can’t.  I can’t shift without the Wolf.  I can’t.  I…”
“Stop that.”  My hand clamped down on hers before she ventured any further.  Instantly my heart responded, beating wildly with a new life I still couldn’t understand.  It was as if her touch, her gaze, her very presence had reawakened my soul.  “Yes, you can,” I argued.  “You can do anything you put your mind to.  With this wolf you keep referring to or without.  Listen to me.”  I pulled her again into my arms, hoping I managed to be gentler with her than before.  A warmth from her closeness spread through my hands and arms to my chest and down to my dick, leveling it out into a rock-hard salute.  By the moon and stars, how am I going to let her go? I swallowed down the enormity of my emotions and focused on her eyes, insisting she return my gaze.  When she did, I whispered to her.  “We’ll do it together like a team.”
“Like friends?” Caroline asked.
“Yes, like friends.  Allies.  A partnership.  Whatever you’d like to call it.  Just because you are a werewolf and I’m a vampire, sworn enemies of the realms, doesn’t mean we can’t put that aside and do this.  Your life is in danger and I’ll help you get out of this, okay?  I just need you to trust me.  I’ll trust you if you trust me.  Okay?”
She nodded and yanked her cap off.  “I hate this thing.  I can’t stand to have anything on my head.  Raphael, technically I’m not…”
I waited for her to finish her sentence, but she didn’t.  She bit her bottom lip and refused to go on.  Seeing her mass of glorious golden hair spill over her shoulders, I was suddenly speechless.  She ripped off her jacket and rearranged the knot in her shirt.  I caught a glimpse of her flat stomach and my body responded.  I wanted to take her right then and there.  I wanted to remove the rest of her clothing and delicately explore every inch of her body, down to the first caress, the first kiss, the first thrust.  I wanted to claim her for my own, not set her free.  My heart ached and I died a hundred deaths inside as I watched her.  She’d be out of my life very soon.
“Okay, I can do this.  Of course I can do that.  I’m a Werewolf Princess.  I’m King Lycaon’s only daughter.  I’m fearless.  I can do this.  Okay.  Okay.  Okay.”
“Just think, ‘Kill or be killed.’  My blood will do the rest.”  I waited for her to agree with me or at least acknowledge I had spoken.  She continued messing with her clothes.  “Caroline, you’re shaking!”

**** MY REVIEW ****

Reading Dark Side of the Moon I was a little confused at first. The story started out kind of slow. In the end it all made sense to me, and I gave it four stars for the creativity of the story. With a little more development through out it could be really phenomenal.
